The Nigerian State and NYSC

My Dad and I had a spirited discussion about life and it quickly drifted into the murky waters of the threatened Nigerian State and the affairs of the NYSC.
He served exactly thirty two years ago in Niger State. The basic allowance for a corper was N200 monthly nation-wide. At the time, a brand new Peugeot 505 was N5000. It means, he would work for approximately 2 years to be able to afford one since the annual salary will have been N2400.

But this was about thirty years ago. Today, corpers clearly earn multiples of that amount--N19800 per month.
But a brand new Peugeot today is roughly 8million naira! If a corper has to work for two years to afford this old fashioned luxury, it means he must earn an annual salary of 4million naira; which necessitates that the allowance of corpers serving in 2017 should be roughly N300,000 monthly!
The corper today earns just 200naira short of N20,000. So, the worth of a corper using the economic metrics of Nigeria in the '80s has plummeted by a factor of 15!
In essence, corpers today are 15 times poorer than those of 1985.

What will be worse is to have this heartbreaking discussion with my kid, in 30 years time and not to be able to save him from being 15 times poorer than I currently am!
