Success Story: How I went from a CGPA of 2.29 to 4.00 within a Semester

This is a Success Story shared by Olusola O'sola Fapohunda, a graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. ----- In early 2010, I went with about four other guys in my department - to visit our level registration officer. We wanted to check our result. Each one of us, was with a paper and a pen. The lecturer in charge asked for our matriculation numbers and one after the other, he was reeling off grades, GPA and CGPA. He eventually got to me and I heard a digit that sounded like I've been shot. God! Me! 2.29. I've earned myself Grade E in some three unit courses and my best course was APH301, which I had a B with a score of 69. About six months later, I went to check my 300 level second semester result and I now had a CGPA of 4.00. That was the happiest day of my University education. I was rolling on the floor of the room. A lot of us have become used to using salt to kill earthworms when we encounter any in our houses. I've thought about this for a while now, but I recently decided to check it up and I'll share what I learnt about the science. Before that, I'll share some points about earthworms: - They are in the lumbricus genus, there are various species of earthworms, but the common earthworm's scientific name is lumbricus terrestris - Their digestive system runs through the length of their skin - Earthworms respire through their skin - They are hermaphrodites (each one carries both male and female sex organs) - They lack either an internal skeleton or exoskeleton , but maintain their structure with fluid-filled coelom chambers that function as a hydrostatic skeleton. You can either carry the pains of your past as excess baggage or convert it into a fuel of love to propel you into your greatness. The choice is yours, because the past is gone and cannot be undone. However, the meanings we ascribe to the tragedies of our past is hardwired into our subconscious and dictates most of our thought processes and decision-making in the present. The way we interpret those events can be rewired to give positive meanings to our pain. We must see those ugly experiences as part of a grand design that is intended to bring out the beauty in us. One from a family with high personal and moral values may not agree with the other who has his or her own values, and who feels they are justified and right. This morning (on the day this was originally written), I and mum had a good mom-to-son discussion. I was listening to Tim Godfrey's 'Gbemisoke', with my earpiece tightly clung to my ears. The instrumental portion of the song forced me to dance along the rhythmic steps with a great fervour. Actually, the earpiece was already half-dead, and wouldn't be accepted by a layman even if gifted. I wasn't ready to buy a new one. I danced so passionately that my mum couldn't help but laugh. And suddenly, the song abruptly stopped. I wondered why it stopped. Later, I found out that the earpiece died itself. It was time to have it thrown out. My mum laughed at me. Then she said something that triggered a discussion. "Olorun moomo je ki earpiece yii baje, ki o le ramin" (God has deliberately allowed this earpiece to spoil, so you'd buy a new one."
