Eggshells (Episode 3)

Image
The movie turned out to be a comedy. Stanley rarely liked comedies. He was more into thrillers, action, and sci-fi. He had to fake his laughter at every interval. He did this in order not to look odd among the audience who were obviously cracked up by what Stanley felt was "mediocre and silly". When nobody was looking, he made sure his gaze was on his beautiful date, Franca. Franca, he thought. The truth was that he didn't expect her to agree to the movie date. A part of him was expecting her to decline his offer. This was why he was surprised when she had politely called him back before he left her office. She had smiled and told him she would go with him. Stanley wasted no time in asking for her number. There he was with her in a cold theatre hall sipping on some soda and munching some popcorn while holding her hands subtly. If he ever got to marry this woman, he would always recount the story of how they began as something that happened so fast. He shuddered. He had

Liver health: keeping a healthy liver

Image
The liver is an essential organ, the largest internal organ in the human body. It has a wide range of functions, including detoxification of various metabolites, protein synthesis, and the production of biochemicals necessary for digestion. It also plays a role in metabolism, regulation of glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells and hormone production. It is said that the liver has over 500 functions. Here are important points to note about having a healthy liver: Foods with lot of fiber, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, cereals, are healthy to the liver. In addition, taking more of natural foods, plant based proteins, and less of fats and fatty food helps promote a healthy liver. Alcohol can damage the liver, it's damage could accumulate over time. Moderate your intake of alcohol and avoid taking it regularly. Caffeine is good for the liver but taking excess of it can damage the liver.  Taking overdose of some medication as well as wrong combinatio

Light through your words

Image
This quote has been one of my favourites from the day I came across it: "Today will never come again. Be a blessing. Be a friend. Encourage someone. Take time to care. Let your words heal and not wound" Words are very powerful. Words affects the "mind". Words tells who you are. Words can inspire Success and failure as well. A word from you can bring a change in someone's life and make that person to be eternally grateful to you, many years after. How do you use your words? How much positive words do you say about yourself? How much positive words do you inspire others with? In your conversations, do you think before you speak? Even during casual conversations, words matter. Someone listening to you can derive motivation, or can get discouraged.. "Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs" (Pearl Strachan Hurd) "Be careful what you say. You can say something hurtful in ten seconds, but ten years later, the wounds are sti

What Innovation can do to your life

Image
I came across this piece and felt I should share it here. Thumbs up to the original author! It's a talent that everyone has, yet they think they don't. The power of innovation. If you've ever marvelled at somebody's creative prowess, guess what, you can create and innovate too. It just takes time. Everyone is born creative. The box of crayons in kindergarten were not limited to those who possessed potential; because the truth is, everybody has potential. You know how long it took to learn to ride a bike or drive or to never commit the same mistake again? It's the same with innovation. It takes a bit of practice and a lot of time before this mind function comes easily when called. This article will teach you a few tips on how to bring innovation into your life. Don't listen to what other people say. Follow the beat of your own drum. Allowing for the input of other people will only bring cacophony to the music you are trying to make. If you have an original ide

Relationship Series (Part 1)

Our present society is a mixture of different persons of different family values. That's one of the major reasons why people have different understanding of an issue or situation. One from a family with high personal and moral values may not agree with the other who has his or her own values, and who feels they are justified and right. You see situations where people can't relate because of their parallel opinions and beliefs which are antagonist to each other. You see situations where people "mind their business" because they feel that the actions and activities of other persons, has no significant effect on them. One thing I've learnt about life is that everyone, has an effect, positive or negative, on the entire system. It's like a chain reaction. And the only way to ensure there's a general positive effect is by everyone who knows what's right, do what's right and help promote such positive vibes in the little way they can. I can be of help to

Eggshells (Episode 2)

Image
Stanley could not believe that he was delayed at the banking hall for close to an hour before he was asked to enter the office of the Customer Service Manager. Jessica who had waited behind in her car kept on sending him text messages asking him if he was done yet. He pitied her. The poor woman left her own business to attend to his own troubles. He, for once in his life, thought she would make a good wife. However, he didn't love her. Or maybe he did, but he had not realized yet. "You can go in now Sir", came the voice of one of the cashiers at the counter. "Thank you for taking my sweet time". Stanley grinned and walked straight to the door he had been directed to. He was too preoccupied with his fury to knock at the door. He got in and slammed the door behind him. The woman seated at the desk in the cozy and fully air-conditioned office looked smart in her black and white suit. She had a pair of glasses on and she gave off an impression of control and co

You may be consuming high amounts of sugar and it's unhealthy for you

Image
A lot of us must have heard that much sugar is not healthy, but a good number of persons still consume a large amount of it. Sugar is a carbohydrate and we have simple sugars (glucose, fructose, galactose) and more complex forms of it (sucrose, lactose, maltose). The sugar we consume is mostly in the form of sucrose, a disaccharide made up of glucose and fructose. When we consume sugar, it is metabolized to give us energy, but when high amounts of it is consumed, the body converts to body fats and store them. Sugar (sucrose) contains about 50% fructose, and fructose, which is actually the sweet part of sugar, responsible for the sweetness we taste when we take sugar is not good for us. Fructose is metabolized only by the liver which means there's a lot of work for one's liver to do. It is toxic to the liver especially in those who consume large amount of sugar (the human body is not meant to consume so much fructose). Also, sugar is ADDICTIVE due to fructose. Fructose suppress

Eggshells (Episode 1)

Only Jessica Wilson understood him. Stanley was a man of short temper. He could hardly control himself when he was angry. He personally disliked getting angry but it seemed that getting angry was unavoidable for him. This time, it was his car. His mechanic, Yusuf had "tampered" with its engine a few days ago. Stanley had paid him #5,000 for his services even though he knew deep down that he was been overcharged. He had no choice. Getting an honest mechanic these days was like finding a needle in a haystack. His only console, however, was that Yusuf was pretty good at his job. He was not the best around but he was far from being mediocre. Stanley had been called over the phone by his secretary. The call was to let him know that a certain amount of money had been deducted from the company's account by the bank to cover for the loan which he received earlier. Stanley was more than furious to hear that. He immediately excused himself from the meeting he was involved in and m

Late night eating is unhealthy for you

Image
Late night eating is a common habit that have become integrated into the lives of many people. Lot of persons work till late at night, and have to take late dinner. Even persons who are aware of its unhealthiness sometimes find it difficult to stop. However, everyone wants a healthy life and have to promote healthy eating to achieve that. Having late dinners, or snacking late at night may not really affect a night worker whose day is night and vice versa, but it's unhealthy for one who sleeps at night. At night, one doesn't expend much energy, and the body's metabolism is slower and thus, having late dinners, especially eating heavy food and overeating can result in weight gain, and increased blood sugar levels which can be a predisposition to chronic diseases, including heart attack and stroke. Also, late night dinner can affect one's sleep cycle. The process of digestion can result in one having difficulties sleeping, waking up during sleep, and there may be need fo

Mindset: One's greatest strength

Our most powerful element is the "mind". It's the distinct difference between being successful and failing to achieve. It's what limits you and keeps you distant from your dreams. One of our quotes for this week (by Alice Walker) was about the common way we give up our power, we under achieve and never get fulfilled. Theodore Roosevelt also said: "Believe you can and you're halfway there". The mind is one's greatest strength. When the mind is weak, discouraged and negative, it mirrors into one's actions and activities and ultimately influences the end results. Positive mindset is an essential individual factor for personal success as well as collective success. We see and feel the effects of mindset around us. When we complain about the challenges we face in family, work place, school, organizations we belong to, even the challenges we have as a society or a nation; they're all related to different personal mindsets. When you see a successfu

Quotes for this week

The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any (Alice Walker) Things work out best for those that make the best of how things work out (John Wooden) A healthy attitude is contagious but don't wait to catch it from others. Be a carrier (Tom Stoppard) I've learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what may be just a few steps down the road for you. The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path. Transforming fear into freedom - how great is that? Relationship Series (Introduction)

Some years ago, I began to have some thoughts about life. Everyday, we come across people who put up false happiness. Everyone's trying to be truly happy, and everyone surely deserves that, because there's no life without happiness. But a lot of persons are much unhappy inside than they seem to be. Sometimes the pain they feel deep inside gets to a threshold, where they can't keep on putting up false happiness, and their true feelings are more often expressed. For a good number of persons, they redefine happiness, and their definition of happiness does not bring them true happiness, though it feels so at the beginning, but at the end, it only adds to the pain they already feel. At the same time, their search for happiness causes pains to others who are averagely happy or whose happiness is below average. Relationships are part of life. Everything about life thrives on relationship. For every society to be progressive, there must be a greater part of the society with posi

Life and Relationship

How would you define "Life" if you were asked to? I was thinking about this and I came up with two simple definitions, which are related to each other. Life is happiness; and Life is loving yourself, loving others and loving God. Both definitions are related because you can't be happy without loving yourself, loving others and loving God. A large book can be written just to break down this definition. Loving yourself means you do the things that makes you happy, not just happy but also helps you grow and get better and more positive. It involves chasing your dreams, developing and using your natural talents and striving to have a better life tomorrow. The nice thing about your person is that you're Unique, with your own unique talents and abilities. Those talents and dreams you're working hard to achieve will not only serve the benefit of making you fulfilled or giving you a comfortable life, but they are also meant to benefit the world around you. That
