Why Salt kills earthworms?

Image
A lot of us have become used to using salt to kill earthworms when we encounter any in our houses. I've thought about this for a while now, but I recently decided to check it up and I'll share what I learnt about the science. Before that, I'll share some points about earthworms: - They are in the lumbricus genus, there are various species of earthworms, but the common earthworm's scientific name is lumbricus terrestris - Their digestive system runs through the length of their skin - Earthworms respire through their skin - They are hermaphrodites (each one carries both male and female sex organs) - They lack either an internal skeleton or exoskeleton , but maintain their structure with fluid-filled coelom chambers that function as a hydrostatic skeleton. Okay, let's talk about salt and earthworms: Earthworms respire and secrete mucus through their skins. Salt (sodium chloride) has the ability of absorbing moisture (desiccant). When a large quantity of salt i...

I was on one of my favorite spots reading with my phone, when two young ladies, one in bum shorts (I hate when ladies wear this outside) just showcasing themselves in front of me. I lifted my head and looked, then smiled and shook my head as if I didn't see anything. I continued my reading. After plenty effort to gain my attention, by one of them, they advised themselves. One said to the other, why you just dey show yourself, which boy weh go call you for here? I smiled again, then two ladies beside me joined in the discussion. No be boy dey here, one of them mentioned. The other lady replied her saying, "this one na pastor o, em no get time". And as if that was not enough, the other lady went on to ask, "abi em no get prick, no be man em be?". This time I was shocked. I smiled again and pretended as if I didn't hear what she said. In my heart I replied, I have prick but my prick is under control, my prick does not control me nor dictate for me. Why my sto...

Relationship Series (Introduction)

By -
Some years ago, I began to have some thoughts about life. Everyday, we come across people who put up false happiness. Everyone's trying to be truly happy, and everyone surely deserves that, because there's no life without happiness. But a lot of persons are much unhappy inside than they seem to be. Sometimes the pain they feel deep inside gets to a threshold, where they can't keep on putting up false happiness, and their true feelings are more often expressed. For a good number of persons, they redefine happiness, and their definition of happiness does not bring them true happiness, though it feels so at the beginning, but at the end, it only adds to the pain they already feel. At the same time, their search for happiness causes pains to others who are averagely happy or whose happiness is below average. Relationships are part of life. Everything about life thrives on relationship. For every society to be progressive, there must be a greater part of the society with posi...

Organizational Leadership

Image
A few days ago, I found myself in a work space where I had to negotiate for a deal with an organization. I was welcomed warmly. As I walked down to the appointed office, I was concerned by the facial expression of one of the employees as we moved in opposite directions. He muttered words in complaint with face bowed to the ground as He had received a portion of the managers venom for not meeting up with the required task. He pronounced a few challenges before him to another coworker as they moved to resume duty. He muttered the sleepless nights his family has faced because of their sick child and how this has drained his finances. The manager at his end was still expressing his displeasure until he got a sight of me. I was immediately seated with Him and we chatted for about 5 minutes before we commenced the business of the day. We talked about family, business and government. Though I was surprised at the immediate change of mood. Alas; I am the ideal client; "the one who m...

Investors and banks do not fund Ideas

By -
Image
Investors and banks don't fund ideas. They invest in going concerns and buy equity in businesses that have been prototyped, and have a proven business model & market. Friends, family members, philanthropists, grant making organisations and competitions fund ideas. If you're an early stage business, stop looking for investors or loans. Register for grants from organisations like Tony Elumelu Foundation, go for competitions like Google Launchpad or look for a benevolent uncle. These sources of funds are "no pressure". They do not attract interest and many times will be written off, if your idea doesn't work. By: Subomi Plumptre

Trust me, it will positively transform your understanding of money and you will learn to grow your wealth as you apply the simple yet profound rules stated in this book. Please find time to read this book. The Love and Positivity Initiative – LPI

Positive Life & Relationship Presents – The Love & Positivity Initiative (LPI) ---------- Hi Friend. Hope you're doing Great? I believe 2017 has been Great for You? 2018 have to be Greater! ---------- I will briefly share my story – the motivation. When I was born, I had a "perfect" mind. By this, I see the world through the positive light. I always speak and advocate for what's right. I don't need to be trained or taught, it was just in me. It's my personality. Growing up wasn't easy. Aside family challenges, my positive philosophy of life was basically solid though I later discovered that I had a lot to learn, and with my greatest ability – the ability to have an open mind towards life – I was able to get to where I want to be mentally, or let me say, I've gotten to a great extent (learning and improving never stops, you know) There came a period when I had some darkness – my positive philosophy to life started shaking.. Life's dai...

How Airplanes fly? (brief summary)

By -
Image
I will love to write a little science about airplanes being able to fly. I'll only give a basic summary of a more detailed science. Photo Credit: freepik.com Four forces act on a flying airplane: the LIFT acting upward, the WEIGHT acting downwards, the THRUST acting forward, and the DRAG acting backwards. The LIFT is the force that makes the airplane move upward, and it is balanced by an opposite force, the WEIGHT which the plane exerts downwards and which is as a result of the plane's weight including the weight of people and loads on the plane. The THRUST is the force that makes the plane move forward, and it is balanced by a resistance force, the DRAG. Thus, for a plane to move forward, the THRUST must be greater than the DRAG; and for the same plane to move upwards, the LIFT must be greater than the WEIGHT. Airplanes got "engines" and they also got "wings". Normally, we should assume it's the engine that makes the plane fly, but u...

Why You May Not Succeed

70% of Leaders rose to stardom through the influence and impact of other leaders who directly or indirectly mentored them. Arguable, how far an individual can go in Life and Leadership can be traced down to the leaders or people who mentored and equipped them for Leadership. In the political arena, this may be referred to as "God fatherism". Most persons undergo a coaching process. Who Mentors Help? Mentoring is a parenting process to teach, equip, learn, make another better or become better for an assignment or task. Leaders acknowledge the fact that true success is measured by succession; this determines a leader’s level of effectiveness. Learn to follow the legacy of good mentors and coaches, and strive to achieve even more; also try to make a positive impact in the lives of others through mentorship. You may not need a mentor or coach, getting one is not a must. But having a mentor who is committed to your growth helps you leverage on their own experience and shorte...

Rags (2012)

So I picked this movie as the first I'll write about on this label. I've watched lot of movies, deleted some, but this is one of those I find it difficult to delete. I just have to delete some others to create space for some more movies I want to watch.. This is one of the movies I'll recommend if you are looking for one to give you some motivation. Rags is a musical film, starring a number of characters, two of which are most outstanding. Charlie Prince (Max Schneider) and Kadee Worth (Keke Palmer) both got musical talents, but of different financial backgrounds. Photo Credit: Wikipedia Charlie, who had lost his mum and was from the lower financial background, had great passion for his talent and always believed he will be someone great one day. He kept up his faith, even with his discouraging step dad and step brothers. Anyway, he got that little family (Diego and Martha) which kinda filled a gap and gave him some inspiration. He had his fears, sometimes doubte...
