A small businessman once owed a large sum of money to an old and unattractive loan-shark that just so happened to fancy the business man’s daughter. After many years of the business man's failure to pay back, the loan-shark then decided to offer him a deal that would completely wipe out the debt but with a catch that he could marry his daughter. Needless to say, this proposal was met with disgust by the businessman and sadness by his daughter. So, the loan-shark devised a means to get the business man play along by telling him he would place two pebbles in a bag, one white and one black. And if his daughter reaches into the bag and pick out a black pebble, the debt would be wiped and he would marry her. But if she picks white, the debt would also be wiped, but the daughter wouldn't have to marry him.
