This is a Success Story shared by Olusola O'sola Fapohunda, a graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. ----- In early 2010, I went with about four other guys in my department - to visit our level registration officer. We wanted to check our result. Each one of us, was with a paper and a pen. The lecturer in charge asked for our matriculation numbers and one after the other, he was reeling off grades, GPA and CGPA. He eventually got to me and I heard a digit that sounded like I've been shot. God! Me! 2.29. I was with my parents over the weekend. It was a great time with them. Our conversations especially when I am about leaving them after a visit will end with a prayer. But this time a good part of the conversation centered on marriage and so was about 86% of the prayer on getting married from the right family and settling down well....hmmm. You see, we all have this almighty question to answer now and then. In fact, life in Nigeria is ideally viewed in a particular cycle – Birth - Go to School - Graduate from University - National Youth Service - Work or Business - Marriage and Children, and then Work, Work, Business, Business - Raise Children - Work, Work, Business, Business - Death. I hope you can relate with that cycle. When you are done, your children obviously will continue with the next cycle starting from where you started. I read this book about four years ago, and it was a big turning point for me. Much was learnt, I'll share few of them today. You should check it out. The lessons: Death begins when one stops learning, and ageing starts from one's mind, not one's body. One remains young as far as he or she keeps learning; One starts crashing once he or she stops pushing. One's ability to excel mentally is paralyzed once one stops trying and accepts that the results obtained is the best he or she can attain; One's life becomes a burden when one's life is void of progress. And when one's brain isn't working towards anything, it becomes a weight on the body. The brain is motivated when it sees something ahead, something to work towards for; One's success does not demand prayer and fasting, as much as engaging one's senses positively. First and foremost, how do you love others when you do not love yourself? You will always spill your hate or love for yourself into the way you treat others ultimately. Kid yourself not! Secondly, how do you expect others to love you when you barely love yourself? You hate your height, you want her to love you for it? Or is it after you hate your height, you then want to love a person with same height? You must be confused! You hate your size, and you want him to love you like that? You hate your looks, YOU HATE YOU, BUT YOU WANT ME TO LOVE YOU? How am I going to pull that off?
