Believing Dreams Over God's Word

Recently, a friend of mine brought a twelve year-old girl to see me.
Apparently, this girl's mother’s prophet had a horrific dream about her portending great danger. The prophet's antidote was just as horrific. He told the mother that her daughter would have to bathe naked publicly at Bar Beach, Lagos or she would meet a bad end.
Despite her protests, her mother put her foot down: the word of the “man-of-God” must be obeyed.

I managed to convince her mother that this prophecy could not have been from God.

Dreams requiring ungodly remedies are devilish, crafted by evil manipulative men.

There are also many Christian theories about the implications of eating in dreams.
Most of these are highfalutin and not scriptural.

I remember sometime ago, I didn't eat before sleeping. Of course, I was extremely hungry, but couldn't eat for a reason I can't reveal here. That night, I saw a table of delicious food in my dream. Don't ask me what happened. I ate it. And I enjoyed it.

Some will tell you what you eat in a dream is poisonous. If so, many Christians should be dead by now.

However, sometimes a bodily need such as hunger or thirst can prompt a dream. Sometimes when we are fasting, we dream of great tables of food set before us.

Indeed, Isaiah reveals that eating in dreams come about as a result of natural stimuli:

“It shall even be as when a hungry man dreams, and look – he eats; but he awakes, and his soul is still empty; or as when a thirsty man dreams, and look – he drinks; but he awakes, and indeed he is faint, and his soul still craves.” (Isaiah 29:8).

Many times, people have asked me questions concerning a dream they had, a vision they saw, a revelation they got and the answers I give them is that God’s Word remains the final!

God is not a talkative, but God is talking all the time! Yes… He has spoken a long time ago but the resonance of His word is still lingering among us today via the scriptures as inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, you don’t need to hear any extra voice, dream extra dreams before you are convinced about what the scripture says.

No matter what the Prophets told you, no matter what you saw in your dream, no matter which angel came down from heaven to tell you something different, if it is not biblical, it is not from God!
The Bible is clear on that. Look at these verses of the Scriptures and know that you don’t need to believe some of your dreams and sayings of the Prophets when it contradicts who the Word of God says you are and what the Word of God has said concerning every situation. See Jeremiah 23:28:

"Let the prophet who has a dream recount the dream, but let the one who has my Word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the LORD”

The Prophets may dream and explain their dreams, but God’s word stands sure and must be declared faithfully! That means, the faithfulness towards God’s word must override that of dreams.

Dreams must not take the place of God’s word. When you dream of the devil conquering you while God’s word says you are victorious, all you need is to proclaim God’s word and forget the dream. The Bible said in 1 Corinthians 14:33:

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

God doesn’t author confusion, neither is he confused by the devil’s schemes. This means every revelation must be weighed with God’s word!

No matter where the revelation comes from, whether from the Bishop or from the General Overseer, if it opposes God’s word, it is from the pit of hell! No wonder John instructs that we test every spirit.

Paul acknowledged that Satan can outwit us when we are ignorant of his schemes. Look at David, David never knew it was the Devil who inspired him to go against God’s will and number the people of Israel in 1 Chronicles 21:1,2

“And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel…”

Today, many Christians are making those mistakes too. People base their prayer points on human revelations, they base their relationship on human words as inspired by the devil.

When a thousand of Christians assemble to shout fire on the devil, they are glorifying him instead of glorifying God because they are telling people that the devil is really a thorn in their flesh, but no! We are the thorn in devil’s flesh!

You don’t need to fear those bad dreams, no matter how terrible and convincing they seem to be, you only need to believe God’s Word.

When you put the Word in your mind, you are no longer enslaved by the snares of the enemy, because even your mind is sound!
With that Spirit, we are powerful, lovely and sound in mind!

God’s primary way of communicating to us today is not through dreams or Prophets. These are still relevant today, but when it stands before God’s Word, it is irrelevant! God communicates to us through His Spirit by His word. Look at this,

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:26

The Holy Spirit will not tell you new things, the bible didn’t say that. He will teach you all things. This means he will teach you from something and what is that? From the context of Paul’s writing, we can understand with much clarity the medium through which the Holy Spirit will teach us. It is through God’s word as embedded in the Scriptures and nothing outside that.
He said the Holy Spirit will put to our remembrance all that “he” said to us.
For you to be reminded of something, you will first of all come across it. Our lives must be based on God’s Word and His Word is final.

What then is our weapon of warfare for fighting the kingdom of darkness? It is God’s Word!
