How I got out of paid employment in 11 months

It is true that you achieve what you put your mind to. January 27 2017, I was seated in the office to have my final interview. I have read lots of interview questions and answers online before then like I was going to get a 10 million naira job. Staying without job for a year was the lowest point of my life. I answered every questions pragmatically and then the very big question! How long do you see yourself working with us? "I can only guaranty that I will be here in the next one year", I replied. I didn't even last a year because I have my purpose and focus in view. I knew exactly what took me there so I wasn't that employee who has the mindset of retirement. In fact, I never participated in anything long term there. Maybe you also want to have total control of your time to play a bigger game. The following steps will guide you. Find your purpose: Every decisions I took springed from my discovery of Oladipupo. Though I was jobless in 2016, I used that year t...

Quickly, how are you? Hope not as bad as the mentality of a Nigerian university graduate? If not, listen to me. ----- Was it not on the convocation arena of one of the 'big' Universities of the country that I asked my friend, Daniel, "Nna what next?" He looked at me with a readily astonished face and said: "O boy na NYSC nah". Two years after, he was left with nothing but waiting for Yakubu Gowon to call him up for NYSC. You see, thank God I have been fortunate enough to see the world out of where I was meant to be. Unfortunately also, I lived a lot of my life with people who were too traditional – People who are used to doing one thing the same way from the beginning of the life of their ancestors to the day they die. Growing up in Africa is worst than growing up in darkness. In fact, it's indescribable – the mental limitation of a typical African youth growing up in this third world. They see what they believe they cannot do. The only way to the de...

Success Story: How I went from a CGPA of 2.29 to 4.00 within a Semester

This is a Success Story shared by Olusola O'sola Fapohunda, a graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. ----- In early 2010, I went with about four other guys in my department - to visit our level registration officer. We wanted to check our result. Each one of us, was with a paper and a pen. The lecturer in charge asked for our matriculation numbers and one after the other, he was reeling off grades, GPA and CGPA. He eventually got to me and I heard a digit that sounded like I've been shot. God! Me! 2.29. I've earned myself Grade E in some three unit courses and my best course was APH301, which I had a B with a score of 69. About six months later, I went to check my 300 level second semester result and I now had a CGPA of 4.00. That was the happiest day of my University education. I was rolling on the floor of the room. The previous semester has been hell, yet the one that followed it yielded this awesome result! What did I do? What did I change? What s...

If you believe in yourself, you will live life being yourself and doing the very best to give yourself a worthwhile life. Do you know that staying poor will make you deprive yourself the taste of a quality life, so why not work and treat yourself with love. Your body deserves good clothes, good food and good shelter, honestly I have looked at life and agree that I need to be very wealthy and healthy to enjoy this and much more. Please make up your mind to love yourself, and you can't love without giving. Give yourself what it needs. The bible say love your neighbour as yourself because you deserve to love yourself. Today, some people can't just show love to themselves, there is no food, no good place to lay your body and no enough money to afford the good things of life. Please it starts from learning, earning, investing and working. The pains you don't face today, you will face tomorrow. It has been discovered that no pain, no gain. Find a job or create and start building ...

How to Rebrand Yourself after a Career Change

By -
Image
You don’t have to be told that building and maintaining your brand online is a cornerstone to making things happen in your career. A personal website, social media, industry associations — these are all tucked in your toolbelt for communicating to employers and clients about your brand. Especially if you’re going through a career change, it’s important to give your brand a makeover. Sure, there are transferrable skills, but you need to communicate why they are relevant to a new industry. If you’re going to move to a new career, you need your brand to reflect why you should be able to. Here’s a guide to getting that done: • Show how Versatile You are – Do you have qualities and abilities that weren’t showcased in your previous career, but are helpful, or even necessary, in your new one? Success in marriage is much more than a matter of finding the right person; it is also a matter of being the right person (Leland Foster Wood) Cooperativeeness in conversation is achieved when you show that you consider the other person's ideas and feelings as important as your own. Starting your conversation by giving the other person the purpose or direction of your conversation, governing what you say by what you would want to hear if you were the listener, and accepting his or her viewpoint will encourage the listener to have an open mind to your ideas (Gerald S. Nirenberg) The average person can be led readily if you have his or her respect and if you show that you respect that person for some kind of ability (Samuel Vauclain) The first thing to learn in intercourse with others is non interference with their own peculiar ways of being happy, provided those ways do not assume to interfere by violence with ours (Henry James) Every man I meet is my superior in some way. In th...
