WORD Quotes for this Week

By -

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors thy ways, and sinners will return to thee.
(Psalm 51: 10-13)

Relationship Series (Introduction)

By -
Some years ago, I began to have some thoughts about life. Everyday, we come across people who put up false happiness. Everyone's trying to be truly happy, and everyone surely deserves that, because there's no life without happiness. But a lot of persons are much unhappy inside than they seem to be. Sometimes the pain they feel deep inside gets to a threshold, where they can't keep on putting up false happiness, and their true feelings are more often expressed. For a good number of persons, they redefine happiness, and their definition of happiness does not bring them true happiness, though it feels so at the beginning, but at the end, it only adds to the pain they already feel. At the same time, their search for happiness causes pains to others who are averagely happy or whose happiness is below average. Relationships are part of life. Everything about life thrives on relationship. For every society to be progressive, there must be a greater part of the society with posi...

I am a member of "The Let's Talk About Series" community. I'll be sharing notes from one of the sessions we had this year. The session was on Olajumoke Adenowo. ---------- (Diligent Amaka speaking) Olajumoke Olufunmilola Adenowo (born in 1968) is an award-winning Nigerian architect, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, as well as a speaker, radio host, and author. She is the founder of the boutique architecture and interior design firm AD Consultin, based in Lagos, Nigeria. CNN described her as "Africa's Starchitect" and The Guardian (Nigeria) has described her as "the face of Architecture in Nigeria. Adenowo has several philanthropic ventures. In 1999, she founded the Awesome Treasures Foundation (ATF), a faith-based NGO in Lagos, Nigeria. She has been outspoken about taking pride in her Nigerian heritage and her hopes to unleash the potential of Nigerian youth. Much of the programming works with under served women and children. ATF runs Camp Dawn...

Before You Propose

Truth be told, I believe in that proverbial saying "shoe have sizes". A man who doesn't recognize the relevance of his shoe size will end up with an over sized or an under sized shoe. It's not all Ladies, that one can afford. No matter one's bank account, even if you're Nigeria's richest man, Dangote. Financial capacity aside, there are some Ladies beyond your mental capacity, who reason now beyond the way you will in the next five years (no insult intended, just reality). I have met such Ladies. Then there's Spiritual capacity. As a Pastor, or upcoming Pastor (If such title exists), or one with the Call of God on one's life; and who gets married to a Lady or a Man, who has no interest in God or the Church, how would one cope with one's partner who has some added spiritual responsibilities as a Preacher of the Gospel, or/and a Partner who doesn't feel okay or appreciate your calling as a Spiritual leader? What about Physical capacity? Ho...

Why Salt kills earthworms?

By -
Image
A lot of us have become used to using salt to kill earthworms when we encounter any in our houses. I've thought about this for a while now, but I recently decided to check it up and I'll share what I learnt about the science. Before that, I'll share some points about earthworms: - They are in the lumbricus genus, there are various species of earthworms, but the common earthworm's scientific name is lumbricus terrestris - Their digestive system runs through the length of their skin - Earthworms respire through their skin - They are hermaphrodites (each one carries both male and female sex organs) - They lack either an internal skeleton or exoskeleton , but maintain their structure with fluid-filled coelom chambers that function as a hydrostatic skeleton. Okay, let's talk about salt and earthworms: Earthworms respire and secrete mucus through their skins. Salt (sodium chloride) has the ability of absorbing moisture (desiccant). When a large quantity of salt i...

Life is a Long Shot

When I see those that knew me when I was much younger, probably those we lived in same area or schooled together, I often wonder what they think of me today. About who I have become. I am far different from the person they knew, yet I know I only just begun in my journey to change lives all around the world. When I see men and women, and the weight of abilities they carry, I am astounded. Many of whom are not taking any step whatsoever to show the world the depth of possibility locked in their very soul. Sadly so. I have grown to be able to have conversations with people and pick messages off their lives. Things lying there waiting for expression. Edgy. It is usually a sight to behold when they have “aha” moments, seeing the possibilities that abound within them. I cherish such moments. I was speaking with a very inspiring lady yesterday evening (on the day this was written) and what she said touched my heart. She was loaded with messages from her life experience to bless many lives...

Eye health: Keeping healthy Eyes

By -
Image
We know how important our eyes are to us. The eyes are delicate and no one will definitely want anything to compromise the eyesight. Today, I will share some important points about keeping one's eyes healthy. • Regular eye check ups and tests are necessary for ensuring good eye health, and will help to detect certain eye diseases like glaucoma which could be asymptomatic. Also, one's knowledge of his/her family's eye health history is necessary to pre-guard against hereditary eye diseases • Staring at screens (TV screen, computer screen, video games) could be unhealthy for one's eyes. It's advisable that one doesn't stare for too long. A rule called the 20/20/20 rule suggests that one should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes to reduce eye strain. That implies that one should take his eyes off the screen at least once every 20 minutes and relax the eyes • The use of sunglasses is encouraged when the intensity of sunli...

What difference would you want to have made in the lives of the people around?

Imagine yourself in a funeral chapel; seeing the faces of friends and families as you pass along towards the front stage. You feel the shared sorrow of losing someone special, the joy of having known that person, that radiates from the hearts of the people present. As you walk down the front stage and look inside the casket, you suddenly see yourself lying lifeless. This definitely is your own funeral, maybe a decade from today. Your love ones, friends, colleagues and family had all come to honor you and express feelings of love and appreciation for your life. Now think deeply... What would you like various speakers who would be coming up to say few words about you and your life to say? What kind of husband, wife, father, or mother would you like these words to reflect? What kind of friend? What kind of working associate? What character would you want them to have seen in you? What contributions and achievements would you want them to remember you for? What difference would you ...

You don’t have to be told that building and maintaining your brand online is a cornerstone to making things happen in your career. A personal website, social media, industry associations — these are all tucked in your toolbelt for communicating to employers and clients about your brand. Especially if you’re going through a career change, it’s important to give your brand a makeover. Sure, there are transferrable skills, but you need to communicate why they are relevant to a new industry. If you’re going to move to a new career, you need your brand to reflect why you should be able to. This is one of the best shortest books I've read so far. It's so short (about 41 pages) that one could finish it within a couple of hours. But every page of it; almost every paragraph of it has an inspiring bomb! It's a book one could go through every morning if possible, or maybe at the beginning of the week. It's cool! Think like a Champion was written by America's 45th and current president, Donald Trump. Donald is a successful businessman and television personality, and he shares so much successful tips that's helpful to everyone who wants success and wants to stay successful. I'll share a little of what I learnt from this book. I want you to get this book, and have some mental fun with it, as well. • Never sell yourself short! No matter what, maintain your faith and believe in yourself and your abilities. Don't compromise to please others. If you're talented and passionate about something, make positive use of that talent and pa...
