How I got out of paid employment in 11 months

It is true that you achieve what you put your mind to. January 27 2017, I was seated in the office to have my final interview. I have read lots of interview questions and answers online before then like I was going to get a 10 million naira job. Staying without job for a year was the lowest point of my life. I answered every questions pragmatically and then the very big question! How long do you see yourself working with us? "I can only guaranty that I will be here in the next one year", I replied. I didn't even last a year because I have my purpose and focus in view. I knew exactly what took me there so I wasn't that employee who has the mindset of retirement. In fact, I never participated in anything long term there. Maybe you also want to have total control of your time to play a bigger game. The following steps will guide you. Find your purpose: Every decisions I took springed from my discovery of Oladipupo. Though I was jobless in 2016, I used that year t...

Relationship Series (Introduction)

By -
Some years ago, I began to have some thoughts about life. Everyday, we come across people who put up false happiness. Everyone's trying to be truly happy, and everyone surely deserves that, because there's no life without happiness. But a lot of persons are much unhappy inside than they seem to be. Sometimes the pain they feel deep inside gets to a threshold, where they can't keep on putting up false happiness, and their true feelings are more often expressed. For a good number of persons, they redefine happiness, and their definition of happiness does not bring them true happiness, though it feels so at the beginning, but at the end, it only adds to the pain they already feel. At the same time, their search for happiness causes pains to others who are averagely happy or whose happiness is below average. Relationships are part of life. Everything about life thrives on relationship. For every society to be progressive, there must be a greater part of the society with posi...

Quickly, how are you? Hope not as bad as the mentality of a Nigerian university graduate? If not, listen to me. ----- Was it not on the convocation arena of one of the 'big' Universities of the country that I asked my friend, Daniel, "Nna what next?" He looked at me with a readily astonished face and said: "O boy na NYSC nah". Two years after, he was left with nothing but waiting for Yakubu Gowon to call him up for NYSC. You see, thank God I have been fortunate enough to see the world out of where I was meant to be. Unfortunately also, I lived a lot of my life with people who were too traditional – People who are used to doing one thing the same way from the beginning of the life of their ancestors to the day they die. Growing up in Africa is worst than growing up in darkness. In fact, it's indescribable – the mental limitation of a typical African youth growing up in this third world. They see what they believe they cannot do. The only way to the de...

Why Salt kills earthworms?

Image
A lot of us have become used to using salt to kill earthworms when we encounter any in our houses. I've thought about this for a while now, but I recently decided to check it up and I'll share what I learnt about the science. Before that, I'll share some points about earthworms: - They are in the lumbricus genus, there are various species of earthworms, but the common earthworm's scientific name is lumbricus terrestris - Their digestive system runs through the length of their skin - Earthworms respire through their skin - They are hermaphrodites (each one carries both male and female sex organs) - They lack either an internal skeleton or exoskeleton , but maintain their structure with fluid-filled coelom chambers that function as a hydrostatic skeleton. Okay, let's talk about salt and earthworms: Earthworms respire and secrete mucus through their skins. Salt (sodium chloride) has the ability of absorbing moisture (desiccant). When a large quantity of salt i...

Lifestyle and Health Quotes, this Week

When a body is sick, it is treated more effectively from the inside than from the outside (King Mohammed VI of Morocco) The body is like a piano, and happiness is like music. It is needful to have the instrument in good order (Henry Ward Beecher) Looking good and feeling good go hand in hand. If you have a healthy lifestyle, your diet and nutrition are set, and you're working out, you're going to feel good (Jason Statham) The body needs its rest, and sleep is extremely important in any health regimen. There should be three main things: eating, exercise and sleep. All three together in the right balance make for a truly healthy lifestyle (Rohit Shetty)

Geek Charming (2011)

Another cool movie to talk about. It's based on the novel by Robin Palmer. Geek Charming stars Sarah Hyland (Dylan Schoenfield), Matt Prokop (Josh Rosen), Sasha Pieterse (Amy Loubalu), among others. Photo Credit: Wikipedia Some things I learnt from the movie: • Challenging Yourself to something different and new, can teach you more and help bring out some uniqueness in You. Josh's movie on a human subject (Dylan) was a big challenge to execute. Most of the other persons involved in the Puget sound film festival, picked a non human subject. As an aspiring film maker, one of a very young age, a documentary on a human subject was something so big and rare, and very challenging. Josh picked up the challenge, one which didn't just help him win the festival, but also helped him discover the real personality of Dylan; how her mum meant so much to her and how the loss of her mum when she was eight years old had affected her and shaped her social life. Josh wasn...

If You can love wholly, love wholly

It's easy, too easy, to mouth off the long list of things we'd never do for a partner or while in a relationship. To drop wisecracks at the expense of those who make lifestyle changes when they get married. Here's why; Today's idea of relationships is a far-cry from what "being in love" is. This power tussle where each partner is striving to be the one who loves less. The one who walks away with more blood on their hands. Where everyone wants to score points for their teams. Being in love is a completely different ball game. It's you and this person trapped in a bubble of happiness which you don't want to break out from. You'd do silly things to keep them looking at you a certain way; say corny stuff to make their eyes light up; drop certain habits because you can't stand the friction they create between you two. A bad breakup may be the only thing capable of tainting the memory of how natural it felt to do these things and how happy they m...

By -
Image
This part focuses on diet and eye health. Good eye health requires the consumption of nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zeaxanthin, zinc, beta-carotene, vitamins A, C and E, etcetera. Deficiency of these nutrients contributes to poor eye health Food sources that are positive for eye health include; - Green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale and others - Fruits like citruses and berries (oranges, etcetera). Also almonds, carrots, tomatoes, mangoes, pawpaw - Fatty fish such as tuna, salmon, mackerel. - Non meat protein sources like eggs, nuts, beans, etcetera - Diary products like milk and yoghurt Unhealthy foods such as processed foods, foods containing saturated fats, or foods that are high in sugar, should be limited and less consumed. Stay healthy! Stay Positive!!

I Lost Myself, I Found Myself, Again!

I was nothing special. I get that. I come from humble beginnings. Zero silver spoon in my mouth. In school, I didn’t fit in. Wasn’t given much of a chance. A teacher told me I’d never make a head-on in writing. I didn’t believe him (Trust your instincts versus your critics). I kept on moving ahead. I understood the power of ferocious learning – reading books constantly, studying the best consistently and putting in the effort relentlessly. I made seemingly insignificant small acts that to me revealed a beautiful progress. Quietly proving my naysayers knew nothing. Anyone can put someone down. Heroes lift others up. Thanks to another teacher of mine. In Jss2 – my Yoruba teacher. She saw something in me that nearly no one had. She encouraged me – and helped me believe in myself. Via her, my self-perception changed. My interior story transformed. I’ll always revere her for this. I've had disposed papers where I penned my writings. I couldn't get any published. I started with...
