Sports this Week: Confederations Cup updates; Lionel Messi is getting married today..

The 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup is just less than 48 hours to be done with. It's been an interesting week with the two interesting semi final games played on Wednesday, June 28, and Thursday, June 29.

After Portugal qualified as Group winners of Group A, they booked a semi final encounter with Chile, runners up of Group B, on Wednesday. It was the most interesting game of the cup so far, with the winner decided by penalties. Claudio Bravo, the Manchester City and Chilean goalkeeper and captain turned hero as he saved all three penalties, taken by Ricardo Quaresma, João Moutinho and Nani, while Chile scored all three of theirs.

The other encounter between Group B winners, Germany and Group A runners up, Mexico ended in a convincing win for Germany as they put four goals past Ochoa, the Mexican goalkeeper while Mexico could only reply with a goal, though a stunning and long distance one by Marco Fabian, from a free kick.

Germany and Chile both booked a first Confederations Cup final and faces each other for the second time in the tournament, tomorrow, July 2 at Saint Petersburg. Both teams played out a 1-1 draw at their first encounter in the group stages.

Portugal takes on Mexico for the third place game tomorrow, July 2.

The Adidas Golden Boot for the tournament’s top scorer looks likely to end up in Germany, who have three players in the running. After the semi-finals, Timo Werner (3 goals, 1 assist) is just ahead of Leon Goretzka (3 goals, no assist), Cristiano Ronaldo (2 goals, 1 assist) and Lars Stindl (2 goals, no assist). Cristiano Ronaldo will not take part in the third place game as he has gone home for the arrival of his kids.
