Today, I'll share few of what I learnt from this inspiring book by Norman Vincent Peale. It's an amazing and inspiring book, which I feel a lot of persons have read. But if you haven't, it's worth checking out. It's amazing to know that Peale's book is still inspiring lives long after written, and after he's gone (Peale died in 1993 at the age of 95 years). • Nothing is inherently powerful. But WE are powerful, and we can give strength and power to whatever we choose to give such to. One's mind gives strength and power to circumstances, things, situations. And the more one's mind focus on something, it gives greater strength and power to such thing. I've thought about this for a while now, but I recently decided to check it up and I'll share what I learnt about the science. This is a Success Story shared by Olusola O'sola Fapohunda, a graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. ----- In early 2010, I went with about four other guys in my department - to visit our level registration officer. We wanted to check our result. Each one of us, was with a paper and a pen. The lecturer in charge asked for our matriculation numbers and one after the other, he was reeling off grades, GPA and CGPA. He eventually got to me and I heard a digit that sounded like I've been shot. God! Me! 2.29. I've earned myself Grade E in some three unit courses and my best course was APH301, which I had a B with a score of 69. I read this book about four years ago, and it was a big turning point for me. Much was learnt, I'll share few of them today. You should check it out. The lessons: Death begins when one stops learning, and ageing starts from one's mind, not one's body. One remains young as far as he or she keeps learning; One starts crashing once he or she stops pushing. One's ability to excel mentally is paralyzed once one stops trying and accepts that the results obtained is the best he or she can attain; One's life becomes a burden when one's life is void of progress. And when one's brain isn't working towards anything, it becomes a weight on the body. The brain is motivated when it sees something ahead, something to work towards for; One's success does not demand prayer and fasting, as much as engaging one's senses positively. Indecision to define your kind of man, probably due to self deceit and focus on what you will get (misplaced focus); 2. Faulty mindset: It's so baffling how people castigate their future and still expect the best out of it. If you've been brain washed by that your friend with failed relationship(s) that never told you her own bad side of the story, why not stay off the way? 3. Insensitivity to clearly identify him from the first day. We all know how to use the remote control to change the channels on the TV. If we see something we don’t like, no big deal, we just change the channel. I know I do that a lot. I always say to myself that, “my eyes will see no evil”. We need to learn how to mentally change channels when negative images of the past pop up in our minds unexpectedly. You have to let go of the past and stop feeling sorry for yourself. You can’t do anything about what’s happened to you, but you can choose how you will face what’s in front of you. Create a new TV channel for your mind. Now program this channel with positive memories to replace the ones you are leaving behind. Be sure to delete "past failure" and trust God for a renewing of mind and a better future. You may be consuming high amounts of sugar and it's unhealthy for you

A lot of us must have heard that much sugar is not healthy, but a good number of persons still consume a large amount of it. Sugar is a carbohydrate and we have simple sugars (glucose, fructose, galactose) and more complex forms of it (sucrose, lactose, maltose). The sugar we consume is mostly in the form of sucrose, a disaccharide made up of glucose and fructose. When we consume sugar, it is metabolized to give us energy, but when high amounts of it is consumed, the body converts to body fats and store them. Sugar (sucrose) contains about 50% fructose, and fructose, which is actually the sweet part of sugar, responsible for the sweetness we taste when we take sugar is not good for us. Fructose is metabolized only by the liver which means there's a lot of work for one's liver to do. It is toxic to the liver especially in those who consume large amount of sugar (the human body is not meant to consume so much fructose). Also, sugar is ADDICTIVE due to fructose.
