Nature versus Nuture

Your physical features can be identified as identical to that of your parents, like your eyes from your father, and the hair color from your mother. However, your personality and talents may have come not from your father or mother. The environment where you grew up may have a lasting effect or influence on that way you talk, behave and respond to the things around you.
Culled from Sarah Mae Cero

Scientists argue over the influence of nature which is our genetic make-up and nurture which is our environment. However the argument is basically to determine which influences us more. But they agree that each plays a role in contributing to who we are today.

As Christians, we are caught up in this nature versus nurture interplay. We were made after his nurture, but when sin interfered our genetic make up was corrupted (a missense mutation). When Christ came, he went about removing the codon that started coding for sin. He restored our make up. We thus have a new nature within us. No longer controlled by our earthly nature. However, when man fell, the world was corrupted. Eden (Paradise, a place of pleasure) was no more when Adam fell, as we were chased out. Christ, when He died for us, didn't take us out of the world. He clearly said that we were in the world but not of the world. How then does the Believer live in this world with so much negative vibes around us. How do we live in Heaven on earth? Many a pilgrim are caught up in the nurture around us. The environment influences even to a great extent our view if God thus creating a distortion. God thus created an environment for us to live this life. That Environment is Himself. He talked clearly of us abiding in Him and His words abiding in us. He went further in the book of Acts 17:28: " For in Him we live, and move, and have our being...."

Friends, when we live in this environment (Him) and have this heavenly nature, our perception of God will change. Sin will be out of the equation. Do you realise that our culture influences our christian practices to a large extent? If you grow in a church where casting and binding was the way forward, every scripture you see will be a prayer point and trust me, you will see. But these are all distortions that can be corrected when you stay with Him and In Him. God is not partial, but our eyes must only be enlightened to see Him as He is. Oh that you will open my eyes daily to behold wonders out of your word. Live in the environment of the Word. Take the negativity away by sitting on the word.
