I went to Learn!

The face you give when you launch a new product and instead of people to buy they say "Congratulations, I am proud of you".

Am I the only that has experienced this?

When I first launched my first book, At the River Bank, I had a lot of people that told me Congratulations, the moral support was something else but that Moral support demoralized me and I gave into depression.

Do you know why?

Only one person purchased my book on the day I launched it. The person that even purchased the book was my friend, Promise Excel.

Over 300 congratulations and only one person purchased the book. How does that sound? Have you been in this same situation?

I was sharing this story with Bella the other day and I realized how much I've grown from that experience.

I almost took up on Social Media to say "Mbok thank you for all the Moral support but abeg buy the book na".

Thank God I didn't do that, I wonder what would have happened to my brand by now.

I realized that I had focused so much on writing the book that I forgot about, marketing, making sales, having a list, building a community and even writing sales copy.

I didn't know any of these.

What did I do?

I went to LEARN!

I consulted some marketing guru's and they shared some tips with me, Google and YouTube became my new best friends.

I remember someone telling me about Copywritting and I didn't know a jack about it.

I went to LEARN. I asked questions, became very inquisitive.

I even bought a course on copywritting, became certified in copywritting. I went ahead to LEARN about persuasion, closing deals, psychological sales triggers, hypnotic sales marketing, building my list, developing a community etcetera.

Do you know that people started paying me to write their copies?

This was possible because I went to LEARN!.

When Emeka Nobis brought out his course on book marketing strategy, if I am correct I was the first person to purchase the course.

I was hungry to LEARN. I am still hungry to LEARN.

A lot of us are scared of doing somethings' because we don't know how to do it. When you don't know how to do it what do you do? You LEARN!

Fear comes when knowledge is absent.

Everything is learnt if you give yourself the psychological permission to learn.

The things people do now you think they just woke up one morning and started doing it?

A man's knowledge today is a sum of all the things he learned yesterday.

Yesterday (on the day this was written), I watched Pastor Chris Oyakilome live as he preached. He used his iPad to read out scriptures. Later in the day, I saw a post on Instagram, and one guy like that insulted Pastor Chris for using iPad, instead of his Bible. I laughed at the man's ignorance. I remember an Uncle of mine was invited to a Church. He went there with his iPad, and someone asked him: "Sir, where is your Bible?” He showed him his 10.1 inches Pad. “But Sir,” he said, “This is not a Bible, this is iPad, you need to carry your Bible. You're not a good preacher, if you don't preach with your Bible," one of the pastors said. I read this book about four years ago, and it was a big turning point for me. Much was learnt, I'll share few of them today. You should check it out. The lessons: Death begins when one stops learning, and ageing starts from one's mind, not one's body. One remains young as far as he or she keeps learning; One starts crashing once he or she stops pushing. One's ability to excel mentally is paralyzed once one stops trying and accepts that the results obtained is the best he or she can attain; One's life becomes a burden when one's life is void of progress. And when one's brain isn't working towards anything, it becomes a weight on the body. The brain is motivated when it sees something ahead, something to work towards for; One's success does not demand prayer and fasting, as much as engaging one's senses positively.
