Real Teachers are Builders, Motivators and Leaders

Sometimes, a lot of students do feel that some of their Teachers (Teachers, Lecturers) do not fit into those shoes. Sometimes, students wonder if they had any passion for teaching/educating other persons before they came on board the education profession, or if it's just for the money or a different reason.

Even if teaching/lecturing was a job one never wanted, which just came by chance after one couldn't get one's dream job; one has got the job now. Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield said:  "Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well". This should be everyone's attitude to whatever one feels is worth doing.

I've heard about statements and comments by teachers which tend to transfer the difficult experiences they had while a student, to the students they are supposed to bring up and help educate - negativity, that discourages education. Some of them would assume it to be normal or their own way of inspiring or pushing their students. They seem not to understand that they are largely responsible for the future of the society and the nation, and their attitude plays a very big role.
A good teacher wants the students to surpass what he/she has achieved, and should be a positive motivation for that.

As a Teacher, what one does is more than just teaching/lecturing. A teacher's attitude and teaching language has effects on the emotional and psychological balance of the students. Even if one is very good in is/her field, one would be better appreciated as a teacher if he/she is able to inspire and motivate the students and avoid negative statements.

A good teacher shouldn't be imbibing fear into students - fear of passing examinations, fear of failure. A good teacher should appreciate the service, and help the students psychology. Some students who don't do well, fail due to fear and as an effect of negative psychological thinking and feelings. A good teacher should make education to be appreciated.

In fact, a teacher's attitude speaks a lot about the teacher's personality. That's why students may feel/say negatives about some teachers. One can assess a teacher's mentality and grade his/her level of positivity through his/her teaching attitude. Even other areas of a teacher's life can be assessed (though it will be an unconfirmed guess, but with bits of truth in them) by a teacher's attitude.

As an aspiring teacher, don't forget Philip Stanhope's words. Try to bring out the best in your students, and no matter what, stay on the positive side of things. Value your students like you'll want your teacher to value you (as a student). Do not transfer the pains and bad experiences from your student days to the students you are responsible to train. Share only positive inspiring experiences, and never or rarely share negative ones, except you are trying to bring out some positivity from the negativity.

Of course, there are bad, ungrateful and unappreciative students whom one may get pissed off with and whom could alter one's teaching approach. Sometimes, one could start as a good teacher, but certain experiences with students tries to gain some negative impact. Never let it get to you. Think about the options and pick the best and most positive option(s). There are good students out there, who needs and would appreciate the positivity from you. Being a teacher (teacher, lecturer) is not just a job for you, but also a responsibility that God has given you. Just do it to your best.
