Happiness is You

So there are a lot of myths, facts, and opinions out there about happiness. My intention, however, is not to support or discredit any one of them you may have come in contact with before.
While it is true that happiness is relative, it is also true that personal happiness is what you make of life.
Many people in the world today have different goals and ambitions. There is something which is nonetheless common to almost all of us and that is personal happiness.

I have learnt that it is impossible to control the happenings around us but what we can control is our disposition towards these happenings. The major mistake a person can commit is to expect that life will always go as planned or as expected. For instance, you may have planned to wake up at 6 am today but somehow you didn't and woke up at 8 am instead. That was not what you wanted or had planned but that was what happened nonetheless. This is a simple analogy of how the plans of human beings are thwarted by unforeseen circumstances on a daily basis.

It should not be out of anger or desperation of not having exactly what one wanted that one makes a costly mistake of not appreciating that overlooked blessing which seems too minute to be celebrated. Most times, true happiness lies in the littlest of things and not in that grand project you successfully executed.
A good habit worth cultivating is refusing to allow the happenings around us either good or bad, planned or unexpected, determine how happy we are.

This may sound cliché but:
There are actually no permanent conditions in life either good or bad. Therefore, why ruin a beautiful mood of yours because of a temporary situation.

Is it a medical test result? Have you just lost a person dear (temporary or permanently)? Is it that unbearable colleague or boss? Oh, your spouse or child? Whatever it is, the most beautiful moments that we will remember on our death beds someday will be only about the times when we were indeed happy.

Why not create those memories for yourself now? It is not too late to start.
Life is beautiful but then, only from the sight of the beholder.
