WORD Quotes for this week

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12: 21)

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4)

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (Galatians 6:9)

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature... (James 3:6)

Relationship Series (Introduction)

By -
Some years ago, I began to have some thoughts about life. Everyday, we come across people who put up false happiness. Everyone's trying to be truly happy, and everyone surely deserves that, because there's no life without happiness. But a lot of persons are much unhappy inside than they seem to be. Sometimes the pain they feel deep inside gets to a threshold, where they can't keep on putting up false happiness, and their true feelings are more often expressed. For a good number of persons, they redefine happiness, and their definition of happiness does not bring them true happiness, though it feels so at the beginning, but at the end, it only adds to the pain they already feel. At the same time, their search for happiness causes pains to others who are averagely happy or whose happiness is below average. Relationships are part of life. Everything about life thrives on relationship. For every society to be progressive, there must be a greater part of the society with posi...

I am a member of "The Let's Talk About Series" community. I'll be sharing notes from one of the sessions we had this year. The session was on Olajumoke Adenowo. ---------- (Diligent Amaka speaking) Olajumoke Olufunmilola Adenowo (born in 1968) is an award-winning Nigerian architect, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, as well as a speaker, radio host, and author. She is the founder of the boutique architecture and interior design firm AD Consultin, based in Lagos, Nigeria. CNN described her as "Africa's Starchitect" and The Guardian (Nigeria) has described her as "the face of Architecture in Nigeria. Adenowo has several philanthropic ventures. In 1999, she founded the Awesome Treasures Foundation (ATF), a faith-based NGO in Lagos, Nigeria. She has been outspoken about taking pride in her Nigerian heritage and her hopes to unleash the potential of Nigerian youth. Much of the programming works with under served women and children. ATF runs Camp Dawn...

Before You Propose

Truth be told, I believe in that proverbial saying "shoe have sizes". A man who doesn't recognize the relevance of his shoe size will end up with an over sized or an under sized shoe. It's not all Ladies, that one can afford. No matter one's bank account, even if you're Nigeria's richest man, Dangote. Financial capacity aside, there are some Ladies beyond your mental capacity, who reason now beyond the way you will in the next five years (no insult intended, just reality). I have met such Ladies. Then there's Spiritual capacity. As a Pastor, or upcoming Pastor (If such title exists), or one with the Call of God on one's life; and who gets married to a Lady or a Man, who has no interest in God or the Church, how would one cope with one's partner who has some added spiritual responsibilities as a Preacher of the Gospel, or/and a Partner who doesn't feel okay or appreciate your calling as a Spiritual leader? What about Physical capacity? Ho...

Why Salt kills earthworms?

By -
Image
A lot of us have become used to using salt to kill earthworms when we encounter any in our houses. I've thought about this for a while now, but I recently decided to check it up and I'll share what I learnt about the science. Before that, I'll share some points about earthworms: - They are in the lumbricus genus, there are various species of earthworms, but the common earthworm's scientific name is lumbricus terrestris - Their digestive system runs through the length of their skin - Earthworms respire through their skin - They are hermaphrodites (each one carries both male and female sex organs) - They lack either an internal skeleton or exoskeleton , but maintain their structure with fluid-filled coelom chambers that function as a hydrostatic skeleton. Okay, let's talk about salt and earthworms: Earthworms respire and secrete mucus through their skins. Salt (sodium chloride) has the ability of absorbing moisture (desiccant). When a large quantity of salt i...

Should an Employee seek to grow his passion?

By -
Image
This is a question that has generated a lot of conversation and brought diverse responses. Should an employee seek to pursue his or her passion? When is the right time? How do I make time to pursue it and make it profitable? Questions like these have lingered in the hearts of employees. With the uncertainties at some work place, the satisfaction derived from your heart's call and the fear of regret at the twilight of life. These and many more have pushed many out of their comfort zone to run their dreams and same time, the demands have made much more cower and stay in their comfort zone, drained of life - dying daily. Am I saying you quit your job to chase your passion? Of course not a decision to be made in the spur of the moment. You just must start small and take little steps towards them. I don't want to use my experience to explain this but let me share a friend's. I met him at a wedding over three years ago, we were groomsmen to our mutual friend and from the...

Mum OR Girlfriend (/Fiancée/Wife) Part 2

By -
Image
Alright! This the Part 2 of the post title. I'll share the issue and my opinion for the Lady. A Lady complains of her Man tending to give much more attention to the Mum, than the attention she gets. Let's assume the Man loves his Lady and values her, but loves the Mum much more (Everyone loves his/her  family, and everyone should. Sometimes, the love is so great and there are reasons behind that, exceptional reasons most probably). How do both resolve this issue before it develops to a much more heated one? The Lady: Just like the Man, the she has to be sure that he loves her. If he actually doesn't, one knows the right thing to do is to back out and save oneself from some emotional, energy sapping stress. Let's okay that her man loves her. Next thing is to figure out what went wrong; what she must have done and if the attitude is a reaction to something she must have done (most Ladies know this anyway). If this is the case, she tries to fix things up and restore t...

Rhesus Factor and Compatibility

By -
Image
I came across the two write-ups I'll share here, about a month ago. I made some slight changes to them. Thumbs Up to the Writers. ----- Here's the First one: ***** Aside knowing your genotype before marriage, there's an important need for one to know her Rhesus factor! Rhesus factor incompatibility is a leading cause of miscarriage. It's not always one's village people or a spiritual something. Rhesus Factor is an antigen that exists on the surface of the Red blood cells in most people (about 85% of humans). It is also referred to as Rh Factor. People who have the Rh factor have “positive” (+) blood types, such as A+, O+ or B+. They are said to be Rhesus Factor positive (Rh+). Those who have the Rh “negative” (-) blood types, such as A–, O– or AB– are said to be Rhesus factor negative (Rh-). The “+” and “-” in front of the blood group is the Rhesus factor. Generally, we have A+, A–, B+, B–, AB+, AB–...

A Story: Do not hold on to offences

By -
Image
Just two years after our marriage, my husband brought up the idea of asking his Mother to move from the rural hometown and spend her remaining years with us. His father passed away while he was still very young. His mum endured much hardship and struggled all on her own to provide for him, and see him through to the University. You could say that she suffered a great deal and did everything you could expect or imagine of a woman to bring hubby to where he is today. I immediately agreed and started preparing the spare room, which has a balcony facing the south to let her enjoy the sunshine and plant greenery. Hubby stood in the bright room, and suddenly, he lifted me up and started spinning round and round. As I begged him to put me down, he said: "Lets go fetch mother". Hubby is tall and big sized and I love to rest my head on his chest and enjoy the feeling that he could pick me up at any moment, put me as smallish as I am into his pocket. Whenever we have an argument and ...

Please, Do it Fearlessly

By -
Image
The year is running out. One of the things that Entrepreneur and business people face is FEAR. Everyone experienced that in one way or the other but the ability to overcome the fear is the best thing to do. Every new year, people have new year resolutions, but along the line they experience Fear, but sometimes we permit it. The greatest of all mistakes is to do nothing because of fear of failure or you think your effort will be insignificant. Just do that thing you already planned to do, it is better to try and fail than to not try at all. Every single idea, decision and action that can make the world a better place counts. I have seen some people with brilliant ideas but they are not ready to excute it. "The sun that's still shining outside is enough to dry your cloth" (Trying to interpret a Yoruba proverb). All what I planned to do this year, I have been able to do it but I still have like 50% to go. What are the things you planned to do but fear says no way? Please...
