How would you define "Life" if you were asked to? I was thinking about this and I came up with two simple definitions, which are related to each other. Life is happiness; and Life is loving yourself, loving others and loving God. Both definitions are related because you can't be happy without loving yourself, loving others and loving God. A large book can be written just to break down this definition. Loving yourself means you do the things that makes you happy, not just happy but also helps you grow and get better and more positive. It involves chasing your dreams, developing and using your natural talents and striving to have a better life tomorrow. The nice thing about your person is that you're Unique, with your own unique talents and abilities. I grew up in a home without a TV, but each time we had to visit our family who lived in the heart of Lagos, I'd get stuck on it like a media-starved kid consuming as much content as was available. Even as a child, Christ Embassy's 'Atmosphere for Miracles' was something for me. It was like a church minted only in the utopian circles of my dream. The lights, the lectern, the language all struck me in awe. Everything felt dramatic – those who felt the power of God wept or fell beneath the touch of a man with crisp yellow hands, spotless white suit and a fluent and flawless grammar! I normally take a walk in the evenings. The practice of solitude on the street... the idea of being quiet on a road full of noisy commuters seems heavenly to me. It makes me feel different and that's exactly the kind of environment I can unwind. This evening, it was church-time for some folks. Because I wasn't walking alone, I had to be chatty with my colleague. We spoke from petty politics to travelling abroad and just as we got in front of this church, I asked him why people went to church. He retorted: "Fear!" Immediately, I checked the faces of those who were praying at the end of a screaming minister's voice and it was shocking to find their faces full of the very thing my friend said--fear. Hi Reader! Hope you're doing good? I was checking up on happiness and how it relates to the body and brain, chemically. I found some interesting stuffs that I'll love to share. There are four chemical substances that are related to happiness in the body: Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins (DOSE). There could be more than four but these four are major. My interest today is on Dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter which influences "reward-motivated behavior " in relation to happiness. By reward-motivated behavior, it is responsible for the excitement one feels when there's a task to be done with a reward attached. This reward can be a goal to be attained or landmark to be set. Late night eating is a common habit that have become integrated into the lives of many people. Lot of persons work till late at night, and have to take late dinner. Even persons who are aware of its unhealthiness sometimes find it difficult to stop. However, everyone wants a healthy life and have to promote healthy eating to achieve that. Having late dinners, or snacking late at night may not really affect a night worker whose day is night and vice versa, but it's unhealthy for one who sleeps at night. At night, one doesn't expend much energy, and the body's metabolism is slower and thus, having late dinners, especially eating heavy food and overeating can result in weight gain, and increased blood sugar levels which can be a predisposition to chronic diseases, including heart attack and stroke.
