Dream Big, Aim High, Never give doubt a Chance

Behind every great idea, there will always be somebody who will be discouraging you by telling you that it won't work. They will tell you it won't be successful. They can even go to the extent of giving examples of people who have tried and failed. People will make attempt to make sure they discourage you from embarking on the journey to success but I want to tell you that nothing will be achieved by you if you are waiting for the time everybody will agree to support your dream. It is better to be alone achieving your dream than to be in midst of mediocre celebrating failures. Dream big, aim high, and never give doubt a chance. Ideas will always rule the world.

The session was on Olajumoke Adenowo. ---------- (Diligent Amaka speaking) Olajumoke Olufunmilola Adenowo (born in 1968) is an award-winning Nigerian architect, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, as well as a speaker, radio host, and author. She is the founder of the boutique architecture and interior design firm AD Consultin, based in Lagos, Nigeria. CNN described her as "Africa's Starchitect" and The Guardian (Nigeria) has described her as "the face of Architecture in Nigeria. Adenowo has several philanthropic ventures. Our present society is a mixture of different persons of different family values. That's one of the major reasons why people have different understanding of an issue or situation. One from a family with high personal and moral values may not agree with the other who has his or her own values, and who feels they are justified and right. You see situations where people can't relate because of their parallel opinions and beliefs which are antagonist to each other. You see situations where people "mind their business" because they feel that the actions and activities of other persons, has no significant effect on them. Many people expect life to be easy. Even as a Christian, there is no crown without a cross. Many people wish they can just wish suffering away, deny it exists or drink it away. Suffering is how the spirit of man grows, how it learns to discipline itself from the incessant demands of the wayward flesh. Suffering people are growing people. But does that mean we should desire suffering? No, we should not desire suffering but neither should we resist it. Because what we resist persists. We should not try to hide from suffering. Like a bully, we stand up to it, pull it in the beard and find out that it was just an attachment meant to scare us. Suffering is not bad in itself and will only cease when you have learned your lesson from it. Adversity is the road map to prosperity just as failure is the step stones to Success. You can either carry the pains of your past as excess baggage or convert it into a fuel of love to propel you into your greatness. The choice is yours, because the past is gone and cannot be undone. However, the meanings we ascribe to the tragedies of our past is hardwired into our subconscious and dictates most of our thought processes and decision-making in the present. The way we interpret those events can be rewired to give positive meanings to our pain. We must see those ugly experiences as part of a grand design that is intended to bring out the beauty in us. We must see our past as a strengthening process, a necessary refinement procedure that was aimed at leading us to our authentic self. This morning (on the day this was originally written), I and mum had a good mom-to-son discussion. I was listening to Tim Godfrey's 'Gbemisoke', with my earpiece tightly clung to my ears. The instrumental portion of the song forced me to dance along the rhythmic steps with a great fervour. Actually, the earpiece was already half-dead, and wouldn't be accepted by a layman even if gifted. I wasn't ready to buy a new one. I danced so passionately that my mum couldn't help but laugh. And suddenly, the song abruptly stopped. I wondered why it stopped. Later, I found out that the earpiece died itself. It was time to have it thrown out. My mum laughed at me. Then she said something that triggered a discussion. "Olorun moomo je ki earpiece yii baje, ki o le ramin" (God has deliberately allowed this earpiece to spoil, so you'd buy a new one."
