We all know how it plays out, when a person is arrested and taken to the Court. Usually, they are accused of a crime but considered Innocent, until proven Guilty. In court, the case is tried. The accusers (plaintiff) try to prove beyond reasonable doubt that they are guilty of the offence(s) they have been charged with, while the  lawyer(s) (the defendant) try to defend the accused and get them cleared of the charges. The Judge then passes a verdict of "guilt" or "discharged and acquitted" at the end of the trial depending on the amount of evidence for or against the accused. Normally, the accused will also be allowed to testify but ultimately, EVIDENCE is the chief determinant of the verdict to be passed. Now let's do something with this analogy I just pointed out. A lot of us must have heard that much sugar is not healthy, but a good number of persons still consume a large amount of it. Sugar is a carbohydrate and we have simple sugars (glucose, fructose, galactose) and more complex forms of it (sucrose, lactose, maltose). The sugar we consume is mostly in the form of sucrose, a disaccharide made up of glucose and fructose. When we consume sugar, it is metabolized to give us energy, but when high amounts of it is consumed, the body converts to body fats and store them. Sugar (sucrose) contains about 50% fructose, and fructose, which is actually the sweet part of sugar, responsible for the sweetness we taste when we take sugar is not good for us. Fructose is metabolized only by the liver which means there's a lot of work for one's liver to do. It is toxic to the liver especially in those who consume large amount of sugar (the human body is not meant to consume so much fructose). Also, sugar is ADDICTIVE due to fructose. About two months ago, a lady walked into the office and demanded for my time. We sat and exchanged pleasantries. I can’t forget it easily, her voice texture happened to be one of the finest I've had conversations with that time, well filtered.
