Leadership is a collective responsibility

Image
One thing about leadership is that sometimes, we don't actually understand what it involves till we are in a position to lead. Sometimes, we feel leaders are overpaid, or treated too specially than the people they lead. Sometimes, we blame, curse and attribute all failures to them. But if one takes a careful look at it, and when one is in a position to lead, one understands better. The amazing thing about leaders is that they take less care of themselves and more care of the organization they lead. They practically live their lives for the organization they are in charge of. As any success of the organization is attributed to the leader (who in turn attributes it to the efforts of each member of his Team or Organization), so also are the failures blamed on the same leaders. Look at a football club for example. When a team performs badly in a current season after a great performance the previous season, the Head Coach of the team is blamed. In a lot of cases, it results to the sack

The Richest Man in Babylon By George Clason

Image
This is one of the most widely read books on earth regarding rules to attaining financial freedom. Its author, George S. Clason, devised a rare but very useful way of sending this powerful information on attaining financial freedom using captivating fictions that keeps the reader entertained while he or she is learning powerful financial life rules. The diction of the characters, though more attuned to the kind of English language spoken in the ancient times, yet so clear and easy to understand. For everyone aspiring to achieve the understanding and total control over their finances, this book is a must read. Trust me, it will positively transform your understanding of money and you will learn to grow your wealth as you apply the simple yet profound rules stated in this book. Please find time to read this book. I wouldn't want to dive too deep into summarizing the book; however I'll be outlining the seven (7) cures to becoming wealthy taught by Arkad, one of the characters,

Drug Abuse and Misuse

Image
As a human being, as a Life, we have a body. The body is like a machine which has many parts. Take a generator for an example. In the absence of any of these: fuel, generator oil, plug; a generator won't serve the purpose it is meant to. This is just how the human body is. We have Systems (example, Digestive system) which has Organs (examples: Stomach, Liver, Kidneys, etcetera); which has tissues; and tissues are made up of cells. What affects the smallest unit, the cells ends up affecting the Body as a whole... A Drug is simply any chemical substance that is capable of influencing and affecting the cells of the body, resulting in response from the cells affected. Drug abuse and misuse isn't just about abusing hard drugs like cocaine, codeine, etcetera; it also involves abusing and misusing normal drugs like paracetamol, anti malarial drugs, and even vitamin C. I could say that consuming a chemical substance that one isn't meant to consume, for example, kerosene, is drug

Medal Needed?

"I helped my Wife bath the kids today". Kids that belong to you both, or the ones she brought from her mothers house? "I helped my Wife with the dishes today". The plates you used to eat the Semo and Afang soup she joyfully and dutifully prepared for you after an exhausting day at work. "I helped my wife wash clothes today", "I helped my Wife do this, I helped my wife do that"...  Pls Sir, what exactly do you now want? A Medal? I once lived with two wonderful roommates, Edo-game Oshios Promise, a.k.a the beans Man, and Adu Patrick a.k.a G.O (my own Alias? I remembered to forget it oh). We never really had clear cut roles at home per say. It wasn't all rosy, but I can tell you this, it was great and fun. Each of us just used our brains. If I woke up in the morning and swept the house, the next person did the dishes, the other person might decide to cook or clean the bathroom. When I did the dishes for instance, I didn't

Eggshells (Episode 8)

Hello?" Silence. "Hello..." Silence. "Hello, I can hear you." "Hello Donald", came Jane's voice from the other end. Donald immediately recognized the voice and was shocked. He hadn't checked the number that was calling before he answered. But then again, he had Jane's contact on his phone; he knew he couldn't bring himself to deleting it no matter how much he tried to. He was the one to get silent this time around, his silence was probably due to shock. "Donald, are you there?" Silence. "This is Jane Agwu. I just thought I should call you to let you know that I'm around. I got back from London two days ago." He finally spoke. "Jane, it's been long. I searched for you where you used to live but I could not find you. I tried calling your number severally but it wasn't reachable. So good to know you're back." "Yes, I know. My sister told me everything." "She did?&qu

Why Pray? My Thoughts:

Image
I have my thoughts about "Prayer". Personally, I had believed more on faith and confidence, than on Prayer. I say this because I've come across a number of persons who believe so much on Prayer, but cannot inspire or give someone some positive vibes in a time of difficulty. You see people who are fast to advise one to pray (and probably fast) when one shares a situation or personal challenge, without doing some brain work and examining physical factors that could've led to the person's challenge and then trying to ensure those physical factors are taken care of before going spiritual. Personally, when talking to people, once I'm trying to relate something with you and you're fast to throw in that spiritual leg, I stop and I'll probably not relate stuffs with you next time. I prefer one relates realistically and then back it up with some spirituality, than one trying to make a whole case of spirituality! Anyway, Prayer, Faith, Confidence were all mean

3 Idiots (2009)

Image
I thought of the second movie to write about and I picked this one. It is one amazing movie I love to watch repeatedly. After the first time I watched it on my mobile, it was deleted. I had to search for it and get it back, and since then, its been there. 3 Idiots is an Indian movie starring Aamir Khan (Ranchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad / Chhote / Phunsukh Wangdu), R. Madhavan (Farhan Qureshi), Sharman Joshi (Raju Rastogi), Kareena Kapoor (Pia Sahastrabuddhe), Boman Irani (Dr Viru Sahastrabuddhe; the Engineering college Director), Omi Vaidya (Chatur Ramalingam) and Rahul Kumar (Millimeter), among others. Photo Credit: Wikipedia Readers, if you haven't watched this movie, I'll recommend you do. Let's see what I learnt from the movie: • Life is actually a race, but not a race to compete with others; it's a race with oneself. Follow Excellence and Success will chase you! Rancho taught this lesson to his friends, Raju and Fahran. While Rancho came first at

Discuss! Talk about Everything!!

"Each time we are through having sex, I take some concoctions to flush my system and my Husband isn't aware. He wants kids, I don't." Chanced upon a woman some years back, we got talking and she hinted me on the fact that she didn't want to have any kids in the mean time. I replied her that it's not a problem since her husband was privy and had made that arrangement along with her. To my shock she said her husband wasn't aware and that he was actually expecting her to get pregnant soon, as they were having sex without any form of protection. She went ahead to tell me that she flushes her system with some funny concoctions which I can't remember now (whenever she had sex), I think it was the popular Fayrouz drink and some other random stuffs. She was told it would prevent the husband's sperm from fulfilling its mission. Now isn't that sinister? The poor man was probably hoping to hear her say she had missed her period and all that.. I as

Say NO to Drug abuse and Illicit trafficking!

Image
Today is International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The theme for this year is: "Listen First - Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe." Drug abuse and Illicit drugs have severe impact on health, development, peace and security. Drug use helps to worsen health challenges such as hepatitis, tuberculosis, HIV. Drug trafficking supports money laundering and terrorism. Let us say NO to Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking! This week, I'll do a piece on health to mark this event.

Kids and Maturity:

Image
Don't consider age when instilling discipline in your kids, rather consider their maturity. Some kids are smarter than normal for their age and should be corrected early enough if not you may be tempted to think they are still children not knowing they are learning fast and developing character. Try and discern difference among your kids. If a method worked for one doesn't mean it must work for the other. Identify the ones that need more attention and give such more attention so that they can catch up with the others and gain independence. I dislike it when I see Godly parents having ungodly kids. Your children are a reflection of your level of spiritual responsibility. Teach them how to comport themselves in church, don't always have that attitude that they are kids, and leave them. No! Teach them early enough to reverence the presence of God. My mum never believed any kid was smarter than me. That helped my self esteem and confidence which was evident in my academic

False Evidence Appearing Real

Image
I can remember my first steps going before a crowd. I was asked to take the Bible reading in Church on a Sunday. By the time I mounted the pulpit, I had to grip the pulpit for support because I just discovered that I could no longer stand straight again out of fear and nervousness. I was shaking like a dry leaf in harmattan. I felt I was going to have a seizure or just fall and embarrass my generation. My legs were wobbling, it was like I had no bone in them. I couldn't look at the crowd, it was terrible, and I can't remember how I survived the few minutes it took for me to finish the Bible reading. I never wanted to get there again, but next Sunday, I was back there, and the Sunday after that, and every other Sunday, and there we have it. Fast forward to the present, after many years of going back to something I dreaded doing, going back to face the crowd, going back to face my fear, the stage freight; it's not really any big deal to me again. Each time I see some

Success Story: Stephen King

Image
I will do a short one on Stephen King, highlighting a key factor in his success. Stephen King, currently 69 years (born 1947) is a successful writer, who has published over 50 novels and 200 short stories. He published several of his books under the pen name, Richard Bachman. His books has sold over 350 million copies worldwide. Some of his books has also won king several awards. That was just a short summary of King's Success. But as we should know, behind every success lies some failures. And most often, the failures comes at the start of that great thing. Once one can stay strong and fight till the breakthrough comes, then the success gradually begins officially. King's first novel "Carrie" was rejected by 30 publishers. One of the publishers said: "We are not interested in science fiction which deals with negative utopias. They do not sell." He almost gave up, he threw the manuscripts for the novel in the trash (He was 20 years old), but his wife, T

WORD Quotes for this week

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12: 21) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4) And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (Galatians 6:9) And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature... Quotes for this week

Image
Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well (Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield) Good, better, best. Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best. (St. Jerome) Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage (Anais Nin) Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance (Robert Kennedy)

A Great Dad?

Image
This may seem to be a late post, but it isn't late after all. Last Sunday (18 June) was Father's day. So, before the week is over, I'll have to drop this post. We'll be sharing some tips about being a great Dad, one that deserves to be celebrated, one who's the best. I think this will be cool and helpful to aspiring Dads (Yeah! The 'young unmarried' and 'Just married!') Let me start by quoting Sanjay Sabnani: "A great father knows that parenting is entirely responsible for a child's development - positive and negative - from birth until the child is done with high school. If your kid ends up with behavioral or academic issues, it is because a parent (or both) failed. A great father cannot distance himself from his children or what they become, they are always his." Let's now see these points on how to be a great Dad: • A Great Dad loves his family. He shows his love for his wife and his kids. He values the mother of his kids, r

Sports this week:

The 2017 FIFA confederations cup has been interesting so far. The group stage is still on with a game to go for each of the teams. For the two games played, none of the teams won both games. In Group A, Mexico tops, followed by Portugal. Both teams have same point (four points), but Mexico has scored four goals against three scored by Portugal. Russia comes third with three points and New Zealand comes last with zero point. In Group B, Chile tops with a higher goal difference, but same point (four points). Germany comes second, Australia and Cameroon comes third and last, respectively, with a point each. Last Group A games comes up today, Group B, tomorrow. ********* On the transfer market, there was a significant transfer. Mohamed Salah (25) agreed a transfer to Liverpool from Roma in a deal of £34m. He will wear the number eleven jersey and becomes Liverpool's first ever Egyptian player. ********** Happy Birthday to Lionel Messi as he turns 30 today! Photo Credit: W

The False Consensus Effect?

Image
There is a phenomenon in Psychology known as FALSE CONSENSUS EFFECT. This effect refers to the tendency to overestimate the extent to which others share our opinions, attributes, emotions, feelings and behaviors. Simply put, it means one thinking or assuming that others feel or think same way as they do. Why am I bringing this up today, or at all? A lot of times we fall prey to this effect. We misjudge and assume certain things to our very detriment and hurt... Husband assumes the reason he wants something is the same reason his wife does; the wife assumes her husband feels the same way she does about sex or kids or family life. A lady likes a brother in church, she starts visiting him, brother is nice to her, brother treats her well, False Consensus Effect happens, and she assumes he feels same way, she overestimates his feelings to be as large or deep as hers. Later, Brother invites her to his wedding, Sister is heartbroken. "I thought we had something going, I thought you lo

Rags (2012)

Image
So I picked this movie as the first I'll write about on this label. I've watched lot of movies, deleted some, but this is one of those I find it difficult to delete. I just have to delete some others to create space for some more movies I want to watch.. This is one of the movies I'll recommend if you are looking for one to give you some motivation. Rags is a musical film, starring a number of characters, two of which are most outstanding. Charlie Prince (Max Schneider) and Kadee Worth (Keke Palmer) both got musical talents, but of different financial backgrounds. Photo Credit: Wikipedia Charlie, who had lost his mum and was from the lower financial background, had great passion for his talent and always believed he will be someone great one day. He kept up his faith, even with his discouraging step dad and step brothers. Anyway, he got that little family (Diego and Martha) which kinda filled a gap and gave him some inspiration. He had his fears, sometimes doubte

Introducing Plus Movies:

Image
Hi Readers, Want to introduce this new label of the blog, the Plus Movies label. I'm sure a lot of us loves watching movies, I think it will be cool and interesting to talk about movies we watch, especially what we learnt from the movies. You can be a contributor to this section. If you want to share your opinions and lessons from a movie you've watched, you can send us a message through the blog's email (plusliferelationship@gmail.com) or send as a message through our Facebook page (Positive Life and Relationship) Let's do this!!

Sadness and Your Health

Image
It seems I have been interested in emotional themes for sometime now; anyway, it's cool understanding some stuffs about emotions. We checked out Happiness last time and learnt a lot of interesting stuffs about happiness. We'll be checking up on Sadness this time. Sadness differs from depression. While it's normal that one feels sad sometimes, it's not normal when it gets to depression. Anyway, we'll talk about depression sometime later. Photo Credit: emojiisland.com When one is sad, especially intense sadness, it compromises the immune system, makes such person prone to inflammatory diseases. It causes the body to increase the production of stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline). This increases one's risk for high blood pressure and high blood sugar. It also affects one's appetite, eating habits (sadness increases stress on the brain, causing the brain to need more energy than usual, and results to one taking so much sugary foods and junk foods)

Trust the Process

Image
So most times we wake up to feel a stark hollowness in our hearts. It makes us question our role in this world and leaves us without a sense of belonging. It makes us loose our genuineness, our personal convictions about life; because we feel our opinions trapped in the silly propositions of other people's ideology. We doubt if they'll be an escape route out of our so-called bedeviled situation. But here is what's best to do, TRUST THE PROCESS. As Ralph Waldo Emerson cleverly pointed out, "to believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, - that is genius." A man should learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across his mind from within, more than the firmament of bards and sages. We should learn not to be mendicant about our current situation. We should seek to abide by our spontaneous impression. Ultimately we should learn to trust the process.

Eggshells (Episode 7)

Image
Jessica got up from her daughter's bed as she heard a knock on her door. She wondered who would want to see her that early on a Sunday morning. She walked to the sitting room and took the keys from where it was hung on the wall and unlocked the door. The man who stood outside was a man she knew so well; a man who had been in her past, Tunde Balogun himself. He was dressed in a white Ankara fabric as his car keys were in his left hand. He was holding a nylon bag which looked like a gift pack he had got from a children's store in the other hand. Jessica gave him a straight face. "How can I help you? It's too early to come to my house." "I didn't come to see you. I came to see my daughter. Is she in? Can I go in?", he said and tried entering. Jessica blocked him. " Are you out of your mind? Who is your daughter? No one is in here so leave now." Tunde laughed. "You don't have to be so defensive, Jessica. You and I know our daugh

Let's check up Sickle Cell Anaemia

Image
It was World Sickle Cell Day some hours ago (June 19), so I decided to do a piece on Sickle Cell Anaemia (a Sickle Cell Disease). Our Blood consists of four major distinct types of blood cells, one of which is the Red blood cells. These Red blood cells contains a protein, Haemoglobin, which is responsible for transporting Oxygen around the body. (Of course, we know we can't live without Oxygen!). This protein, Haemoglobin, in its normal form (Haemoglobin A), enables the Red blood cells have a normal shape (disc shape), but when in a mutated form (Haemoglobin S), results in Red blood cells that are sickle-shaped. The normal disc-shaped Red blood cells are flexible and can easily move through small and large blood cells and around the body to supply oxygen to various body tissues and organs, but the sickle-shaped Red blood cells can't easily do this. They are rigid. Most times, they get stucked in the blood vessels and tend to block the vessels, preventing blood flow and oxygen
