When To Be Silent

Be silent when you haven't verified the story. (Deuteronomy 17:6)

Be silent when it's time to listen. (Proverbs 13:1)

Be silent if you can't say it without screaming. (Proverbs 25:8)

Be silent if you will be ashamed of your words later. (Proverbs 8:8)

Be silent if the issue is none of your business. (Proverbs 14:10)

Be silent if your words will damage someone else reputation. (Prov 16:27)

Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles. (Proverbs 21:23)

The session was on Olajumoke Adenowo. ---------- (Diligent Amaka speaking) Olajumoke Olufunmilola Adenowo (born in 1968) is an award-winning Nigerian architect, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, as well as a speaker, radio host, and author. She is the founder of the boutique architecture and interior design firm AD Consultin, based in Lagos, Nigeria. CNN described her as "Africa's Starchitect" and The Guardian (Nigeria) has described her as "the face of Architecture in Nigeria. Adenowo has several philanthropic ventures. In 1999, she founded the Awesome Treasures Foundation (ATF), a faith-based NGO in Lagos, Nigeria. How Airplanes fly? (brief summary)

I will love to write a little science about airplanes being able to fly. I'll only give a basic summary of a more detailed science. Photo Credit: freepik.com Four forces act on a flying airplane: the LIFT acting upward, the WEIGHT acting downwards, the THRUST acting forward, and the DRAG acting backwards. The LIFT is the force that makes the airplane move upward, and it is balanced by an opposite force, the WEIGHT which the plane exerts downwards and which is as a result of the plane's weight including the weight of people and loads on the plane. The THRUST is the force that makes the plane move forward, and it is balanced by a resistance force, the DRAG. Thus, for a plane to move forward, the THRUST must be greater than the DRAG; and for the same plane to move upwards, the LIFT must be greater than the WEIGHT. A lot of us have become used to using salt to kill earthworms when we encounter any in our houses. I've thought about this for a while now, but I recently decided to check it up and I'll share what I learnt about the science. Before that, I'll share some points about earthworms: - They are in the lumbricus genus, there are various species of earthworms, but the common earthworm's scientific name is lumbricus terrestris - Their digestive system runs through the length of their skin - Earthworms respire through their skin - They are hermaphrodites (each one carries both male and female sex organs) - They lack either an internal skeleton or exoskeleton , but maintain their structure with fluid-filled coelom chambers that function as a hydrostatic skeleton. I read this book about four years ago, and it was a big turning point for me. Much was learnt, I'll share few of them today. You should check it out. The lessons: Death begins when one stops learning, and ageing starts from one's mind, not one's body. One remains young as far as he or she keeps learning; One starts crashing once he or she stops pushing. One's ability to excel mentally is paralyzed once one stops trying and accepts that the results obtained is the best he or she can attain; One's life becomes a burden when one's life is void of progress. And when one's brain isn't working towards anything, it becomes a weight on the body. The brain is motivated when it sees something ahead, something to work towards for; One's success does not demand prayer and fasting, as much as engaging one's senses positively. Are the Young ready to lead?

Each time I hear things like the young people should be given a chance to lead, I laugh. I know we still have very good and competent young people that can be agents of transformation but they are in the tiniest minority. So many are quick to use the arguments of our past leaders attaining positions of leadership at very young ages, true but you must realise that they got there not because of their competency but because they were lucky to be among a few that were a bit enlightened in the wake of transition from the colonial era. There was an immediate need to transfer responsibility of leadership to any indigenous person that had some level of education but not because of their ingenuity. From my judgement, they were average and had not passed the mediocrity mark of which I will say they are the reason for our current predicaments. Our generation has been termed to be the most open minded in the history of human race. That's partly true, as our generation is extremely diverse, and with that diversity many ways of thinking appear. We find that the ideas older generation consider private are openly discussed by our generation and likes of such attitude and approach towards life. This new behaviour and idea of diversity has exposed a lot of us to accepting new ideas – which is not a bad thing in itself. However, it becomes a problem when we start allowing the ideologies, beliefs, and expectations of others define how we live our life. The lack of a strong personal conviction or ideology has left many to seek validation or acceptance from external parties, letting the acts and words of others guide how they live their lives. If a man gives a woman a sperm, she receives it, incubates it and produces a baby for him. If he gives a woman a house, she transforms it and gives him a home.
